Like a trick of magic, Florianópolis takes visitors by surprise, presenting extraordinary attractions. It’s nickname "magic island" combines perfectly with the city - the incredible amount of beautiful places helps to create the idyllic aura of Santa Catarina’s capital city.
In Floripa , travelers who visit this capital experience fun and enchantment. The island seems to have been made for you to forget the outside world and live in a fantasy of surreal beauty.
Tourist Attractions
Florianópolis has a wealth of beautiful scenery; its coastline is framed by white sand and turquoise water. To receive tourists from all over Brazil and Latin America, much of the coast has good infrastructure, with bars, restaurants and shops.
There are so many beaches on the island that is possible to separate them by categories. For example, for nightlife: Praia dos Ingleses, Praia Brava, and Jurere; for trails and a breathtaking views: visit the Island of Campeche; for families: Ponta das Canas and Sambaqui.
Some beaches meet all of these requirements, such as Barra da Lagoa which has calm waves and is a lovely fishing village and another place to be visited: the little Prainha with its natural pools.
A favorite activity of tourists who visit Floripa’s beaches is sandboarding (surfing on sand) . This can be enjoyed in the dunes of Joaquina Beach and the beach area of Mozambique (the dunes of this beach are located at the access to the beach).
Fans of traditional surfing in the sea, must visit the beaches of Santinho and Armaçao on the tour. With perfect waves and surrounded by woods and mountains, these beaches have a rustic and charming landscape.
Escaping the beach
Those who have booked more than two days to stay in Floripa should visit the Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa, located in Jurere - the tour takes about 2 hours (from arrival to site tour). Those who don’t have the time before their trip home can leave this attraction for the next trip.
Untouched by time, the eighteenth century stronghold guarantees a spectacular historic tour, which ends with a complete view of the coast. Admission is eight reais (students pay four reais). Another place worth visiting is the city’s picture postcard, Hercílio Luz Bridge. My tip is that you visit this site in the evening and stand on the mainland side of Florianópolis to take the best photos.
What draws attention to Florianopolis is the coexistence of the modern glamorous city neighborhoods with the simplicity of its fishing villages. The district of Ribeirão da Ilha is one of those more rustic places, which bears remnants of the eighteenth century. The houses are based on Azorean architecture and the pace of the area is quiet. In this district, the Church of Our Lady of Lapa do Ribeirão and the Ethnological Museum of Ribeirão da Ilha should not be missed.
Returning to the city, the neighborhood of Lagoa da Conceição has attractions for travelers who still have energy to spare; kayaks, windsurfers and jet skis are seen enjoying the quiet waters of the lagoon. If these options are not to your liking, you can take a schooner or boat.
You should be weary of walking by now, but recharge your batteries for the end of the day at the viewing platform at Morro da Lagoa - the location provides a wonderful view of the coast and the dunes of Joaquina Beach.
